Academic Coach/Graduate Leader Graduate Assistant in Disability Resources
Qualifications
- Required
- Acceptance into a SUNY Cortland graduate program
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Interest in working with students with disabilities and supporting academic skill-building
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage time effectively
- Willingness to learn about disability in higher education and work from a student-centered, strengths-based approach
- Desired
- Background or interest in education, counseling, psychology, or related fields
- Familiarity with disability-related topics in academic settings
Relation to Educational Program
This Graduate Assistantship would help any Graduate Student with growing in their leadership skills, their understanding of executive function development, how coaching can assist an individual in many areas of life, what the support of a disability office involves and how disability pride, advocacy/allyship is important to building a strong campus community.
Responsibilities
- DRO and MLDO programing support
- Attend Student Leader Meetings
- Social Media Post – videos with student leaders about procedure
- Provide one-on-one academic coaching to students referred by the DRO
- Support students in developing executive functioning skills: organization, planning, goal setting, and problem-solving
- Help students create strategies for managing assignments and preparing for exams
- Refer students to campus resources such as the Learning Center and Writing Center
- Document each coaching session, including: Upcoming assignments and exams, Strategies discussed for completion and preparation, Campus resources recommended, and Agreed-upon goals for the next session
Salary
$1,875 per semester plus tuition waiver for up to three credit hours of graduate work per semester.
