Graduate Assistant for The Lynn Parks '68 SUNY Cortland Alumni House
Qualifications
- Required
- Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program
- Two letters of recommendation, with at least one coming from a person familiar with the applicant’s ability to do graduate work.
- Desired
- Previous experience in customer service or event-related roles is preferred but not required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently.
- Attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per event schedules.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift heavy objects as required.
Relation to Educational Program
Extensive hands-on experience in the comprehensive planning and execution of a wide range of events, from intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations, ensuring every detail is meticulously managed to create memorable experiences.
Responsibilities
- Assist with event setup, including arranging furniture, decorations, and equipment as per event requirements.
- Greet and direct guests upon arrival, provide necessary information, and ensure a positive first impression.
- Monitor event areas to maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization throughout the event Assist in managing event registration, ticketing, and guest check-in processes when needed.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing guest inquiries, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally, when needed.
- Collaborate with event coordinators and other team members to ensure seamless event operations. Assist with crowd control and ensure compliance with event rules and regulations, when needed.
- Assist with event breakdown and cleanup, ensuring the venue is left clean and orderly.
- Assisting with the Parks Alumni House inventory system.
- Work with the general manager to develop new marketing ideas.
- Create and edit social media content
- Attend weekly house meetings, as needed.
Salary/Stipend
$3750 per semester for 20 hours/week obligation
Tuition Support
Six credits of graduate tuition support per semester.
