Qualifications

- Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program
- Two letters of recommendation, one from a previous supervisor/manager
- A desire to create life-long relationships with alumni and friends of the institution.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends when applicable.
- Desired
- Prior work experience in hospitality/service industry or event planning.
- Experience working in customer service environment.
Relation to Educational Program
The assistantship can relate to any graduate program as it will provide the student with the opportunity to enhance transferable skills found in every academic program and work environment including interpersonal skills, communication (both verbal and written), time management, problem management/prioritization and organization. Additionally, this position requires the user of creativity and problem solving as it relates to marketing (e.g. social media) and implementing events.
Responsibilities
The graduate assistant (GA) will work closely with the Alumni Engagement programmatic staff, helping to develop and execute alumni events, designed to foster lifelong relationships between alumni and the institution. This includes creating a marketing plan in collaboration with the Marketing and Communication department, executing events, which may include set-up and teardown, and managing/coordinating student workers and volunteers to assist with events. The GA will also aid in programs or initiatives that enhance the student-alumni connection, such as supporting the student internship program, and coordinating alumni speakers to speak in classrooms, for department panels, and at student club/org meetings or events. The GA will help strategize new initiatives to connect with recent alumni, local community groups, and student clubs/organizations.
Salary/Stipend
$3750 per semester for 20 hours/week obligation
Tuition Support
Six credits of graduate tuition support per semester.
