SUNY Cortland offers two opportunities open to all freshman or transfer students. Explore the greater SUNY Cortland campus - locally or at our Raquette Lake facilities in the Adirondacks.
Adirondack Trailblazers: This program is offered the week before classes start in the fall semester. Participants will enjoy hiking, canoeing, climbing and more!
Cortland Trailblazers: Add a day to your Orientation and explore the city of Cortland and camp at our Hoxie Gorge Nature Preserve.
Registration is first-come, first-serve basis with limited spots. You will be notified via email with confirmation of registration or wait list in the days following your submission of this form. Payment instructions will be included in that email.
Adirondack Trailblazers
The program will meet on campus, then travel to one of our outdoor education facilities on Raquette Lake in the heart of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.
Adirondack Trailblazer Dates
Aug. 23-27, 2026
Sampler Session
Cost: $330 Includes travel, lodging, meals and equipment
You will stay in cabins on the Antlers side of Raquette Lake and enjoy daily adventures including hiking, canoeing and climbing.
Expedition Session
Cost: $130 Includes travel, lodging, meals and equipment
You will spend a night in Camp Huntington at Raquette Lake before heading out on a 3-day backpacking expedition through the Adirondack wilderness.
Detailed Itinerary
- August 21 - Move into your SUNY Cortland residence hall
- August 22 - Light programming at Outdoor Pursuits in the Student Life Center
- August 23 - Travel to Raquette Lake facilities
- August 24-26 - Sampler Session and Expedition Session programming
- August 27 - Return to Cortland
Adirondack Trailblazers is built around Cortland’s tradition of connecting students and faculty in the outdoors. An experience at Raquette Lake creates lifelong memories, which many of our current students and alumni talk about fondly.
