What does “non-certification” mean?
The program is “non-certification” because it does not result in New York State K–12 certification that is required for teaching in public K-12 school. If you already hold NYS initial teaching certification, you may pursue additional certification for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Are there prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) courses and they can be taken in any order.

Are there field placement hours in this program?
No, there are no field placement hours in the program.
Can I transfer credits from another institution?
Yes, up to six graduate credit hours may be transferred (from regionally accredited institutions). To have a course approved:
- If you are considering taking a course elsewhere, consult with your advisor to see if it is transferrable.
- If you have already taken a course elsewhere, submit the syllabus to your advisor for evaluation.
- If approved, fill out the grad transfer credit form, attach transcripts and get the appropriate signatures.

What happens once I’m accepted into the program?
You will be notified by the Graduate Admissions office with an acceptance letter in the mail. The letter will have instructions on how to pay a deposit to secure your spot in the program. After the deposit is paid, you will receive a letter with information on how to set up an account and get ready to register for classes.
