Applicant requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in childhood education, childhood/special education or a bachelor's degree in education that includes content areas such as health, physical education, art, music, early childhood or speech and language.

Program outcomes

The M.S.Ed. program leads to New York state certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities. It also enhances your professional credentials and prepares you for careers that may include: special education teacher in inclusive classrooms, direct consultation or resource room teacher, special education committee chair, developmental disabilities specialist, curriculum specialist, transition services coordinator or support employment job coach specialist.

Current program status: ON HOLD

Recent New York State legislation requires SUNY Cortland to discontinue offering the two separate certification programs (Teaching Students with Disabilities 1-6 M.S.Ed., and Teaching Students with Disabilities 7-12 M.S.Ed.) and provide a new all-grades (PK-12) certification program in its place. Until we have received formal approval, we cannot admit applicants to the discontinuing program or transition applicants to the new curriculum.
