Small Classes, Strong Mentors

Through our small classes, graduate seminars and school district partnerships, you'll develop lifelong connections with professors and colleagues who are passionate about their teaching and research. Serving as your mentors, faculty members are committed to preparing you for the rigor, challenges and rewards that come with secondary English language arts teaching.

Flexible Completion Options

As a full-time student taking 12 or more credit hours per semester, you can complete the program in two years. Our flexible scheduling also offers the option of pursuing the master's degree over multiple years on a part-time basis.

The M.A.T. is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelor's degree and are seeking a teaching certificate in adolescence education: English (7-12). It is not open to students who already have initial certification in secondary English.

Career Potential

Our graduates teach middle school and high school English Language Arts in school districts in New York state and across the country. Alumni also go on to pursue careers in college teaching, literacy coaching, school administration, writing and editing.
