Dedication

Eugene Waldbauer

Dr. Eugene C. Waldbauer

The Nature Study Trail was dedicated to Dr. Eugene C. Waldbauer, professor emeritus of biological sciences, by the Cortland College Council in 1991. Dr. Waldbauer spearheaded work on the nature trail that inspired this trail guide for use by the SUNY Cortland community attending programs at the outdoor education center.

From 1956 to 1991, Dr. Waldbauer achieved notoriety as a highly dedicated and exceptional teacher. In 1979 he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Waldbauer will be best remembered for the many field courses that he taught on and around the Cortland campus as well as at the center.

For many years Dr. Waldbauer taught at the center as a nature specialist for the Physical Education Department in its outdoor education practicum classes. In 1967, Dr. Waldbauer initiated and developed a three-week program in field biology to be offered at the outdoor education center. He directed and taught that program for 25 years.

For more information about the Waldbauer Nature Trail at Camp Huntington call the William H. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education at 607-753-5488 or the SUNY Cortland Biological Sciences Department at 607-753-2715.
