Jordan Kobritz

Jordan Kobritz, Sport Management Department, wrote an article for the Concussion Litigation Reporter commenting on the proposed settlement of the NFL concussion lawsuit. The title of the article is “Plaintiffs Had Little Choice but to Take the Deal Offered by the NFL.”

Genevieve Birren

Genevieve Birren, Sport Management Department, gave two presentations at the bi-annual Play the Game Conference held Feb. 4 to 7 in Trondheim, Norway. Both were on anti-doping in sport. The first was “Social media use in doping prevention and enforcement” and the second was “The Rodchenkov Anti‐Doping Act: The United States’ newest approach to doping control.”

Melissa A. Morris

Melissa A. Morris, Physics Department, gave an invited talk titled “Phyllosilicate Emission from Protoplanetary Disks. Is the Indirect Detection of Extrasolar Water Possible?” at Cornell University in early December. Also, she submitted a paper to The Astrophysical Journal Letters titled “New Insight into the Solar System’s Transition Disk Phase Provided by the Metal-rich Carbonaceous Chondrite Isheyevo.” Morris travelled to Salt Lake City, Utah, for three days in December for in-depth planetarium training, and to Arizona State University (ASU) from Jan. 8-10 to participate in an international conference that she helped organize. The conference was titled “AstroRecon 2015, Conference on Spacecraft Reconnaissance of Asteroid and Comet Interiors.” While at ASU, she met with fellow NASA grant collaborators and conducted experiments on meteoritic material, which will be reported in upcoming publications and future grant proposals. Most recently, Morris coauthored two posters presented at the 225th Astronomical Society Meeting held Jan. 4-8 in Seattle, Wash.

Kathleen A. Lawrence

Kathleen A. Lawrence, Communication Studies Department, had her poem titled “I Was a Carvel Soft Serve Queen” appear in the “My First Job” series at Silver Birch Press on June 22. Also, two of her poems were published in the debut issue of Scryptic Magazine on June 19. They are titled “Shadow Beach” and “Walking the Graveyard of My Poems.” Her two poems titled “Adding Machines” and “Lab Test” were published in Lemon Quarterly on April 8.

Brittany Adams

Brittany Adams, Literacy Department, had her article, “Consent is not as Simple as Tea: Student Activism Against Rape Culture,” published in Girlhood Studies, volume 14, issue 1. 

James Hokanson and Erik Lind

James Hokanson and Erik Lind, Kinesiology Department, along with current undergraduate exercise science students Mary Savi and Madison Heffern recently presented research at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine conference in Lancaster, Pa. The group co-authored two posters titled “Comparison of Fat Oxidation During Walking on a Normal and Lower Body Positive Pressure Treadmill” and “Perceptual and Affective Responses Relative to Maximal Fat Oxidation During Treadmill Walking Exercise.”

Nance S. Wilson

Nance S. Wilson, Literacy Department, had an article published in the March issue of the Association for Middle Level Education’s magazine, This We Believe and the Common Core. The article, titled “Beyond the Hype: The CCSS and Middle Grades Instruction,” was co-authored by Carla K. Meyer of Duquesne University and Laurie A. Ramirez of Appalachian State University.

Bruce Mattingly

Bruce Mattingly, School of Arts and Sciences, co-organized a virtual conference titled “Preparing Students for the 21st Century Workforce: A Free, Virtual Workshop on Cross-Disciplinary, Team- and Project-based Experiences,” hosted Aug. 4 by Westminster College (Pa.). He also presented a breakout session titled “Integrating Cross-Disciplinary Problem-Solving into your Course.”

Keith Newvine

Keith Newvine, Literacy Department, and Dr. Lamar Johnson of Michigan State University will have their book chapter titled “Developing Racial Literacy through Critical Race English Education in Secondary English Language Arts Classrooms” published in Critical Race Theory and Classroom Practice, edited by Daniella Ann Cook and Nathanial Bryan. The book is set to be published in 2024, and the introduction to the textbook can be viewed here. 

Chris Manaseri

Chris Manaseri, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his article titled “Keeping Schoolhouses in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State,” published in the Country School Journal, Volume 6.
