What is Yards for Yeardley?

Yards for Yeardley is an awareness and activation event supported by the national foundation, One Love. One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love: A young woman who tragically lost her life at 22 as a result of dating violence. Her death was completely preventable. One Love's mission is to make sure that it doesn’t happen to others.

Started in December 2014 by three young women on the Boston College and University of Virginia lacrosse teams, Yards for Yeardley has become a community awareness and activation event through which individuals across the country have rallied to honor Yeardley Love and support One Love's mission to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Move for Love: Get Moving!

That's right, get moving! Any activity that you enjoy, whether it be walking, running, biking, swimming, hiking or even rollerblading, it doesn't matter. From the week of Monday, April 26 to Sunday, May 2, consider dedicating your activity towards bringing awareness to relationship violence.

How can I bring awareness?

Help bring awareness by participating in one of our challenges or social media contest! Stop by one of our information booths on Monday and Friday or spread the word by re-sharing educational materials found on the One Love website, your email or our social media channels (@sunycortland.itsonus)

    Most Activity Contest

This contest is simple! The individual who "moves the most for love", will win this contest. There is a catch, to win this contest, you must also post at least one picture/video to social media, to help bring awareness.

This contest beings Monday, April 26 and will end at 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. Log their activity via the Yards for Yeardley Activity Form.

Winner will receive a $50 ASC Gift Card!

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.

    Social Media Contest

Do you have what it takes to create the best picture/video to help bring awareness to relationship violence? From Monday, April 26 to Sunday, May 2, post your pictures or videos demonstrating #MoveforLove, to see if you have what it takes to be the best. Be sure to tag SUNY Cortland It's On Us (@sunycortland.itsonus) to enter!

Visit our Instagram (@sunycortland.itsonus) for more information! Please ensure you are following COVID-19 protocols.

Winner will receive a $50 ASC Gift Card!

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.

    Walking Trail Scavenger Hunt

SUNY Cortland has seven walking trails throughout the campus. On Tuesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 29, 20 mini red dragons will be placed along various walking trails. If you find one, turn it into the Deputy Title IX Coordinator's office in Van Hoesen, Room c-24 for a prize!

Discover where the walking trails are on the SUNY Cortland Walking Trail Map

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.

    Athletics Challenge: Sunday, May 2

SUNY Cortland Athletics is challenging their men's and women's teams to compete against each other to see which team can obtain the greatest activity time on Sunday, May 2.

Yeardley Love was a senior women's lacrosse for the University of Virginia prior to her death and the One Love Foundation has a very strong affiliation with student-athletes.

Student-athletics can log their activity on Sunday, May 2 via the Athletics Day Challenge Form

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.

    Faculty/Staff Challenge: Wednesday, April 28

Yards for Yeardley is something for all members of our community to get involved in! Faculty and staff are an important aspect to helping teach our students and community members about relationship violence as well as addressing and reporting violence.

On Wednesday, April 28, faculty and staff are encouraged to get moving! The faculty or staff member who moves for love the most, will be declared the winner!

Faculty and staff can log their activity on Wednesday, April 28 via the Faculty/Staff Challenge Form

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.

How is COVID-19 impacting this event?

As required by state and federal guidelines, we will not be hosting a Yards for Yeardley in-person event on campus, as we have done in previous years. Rather, all activity will be done independently and only some tabling on campus will be occurring.

Please ensure yours and others safety by following all the required guidelines for COVID-19.

Remember, mask must be worn at all times while on campus.
