Student Select '23
April 24 - May 13, 2023

Student Select '23 exhibition features artwork created by SUNY Cortland students during the academic year 2022-23. The display spans three spaces - Dowd Gallery, Hallway Gallery, and Critiques Space, highlighting student art produced from across disciplines and majors, reflecting a wealth of creativity and dedication to the craft.

The student works will be on display from Monday, April 24, and will remain open to visitors on graduation day, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on Saturday and Sunday except for graduation day.

(dis)content: Alyssa Cusimano
April 24 - May 13, 2023

The body of work titled (dis)content, displayed on the east side of the Dowd Gallery, was produced as a part of a BFA thesis requirement by Alyssa Cusimano, a painting major in the Art & Art History Department. Cusimano's work examines the effects of the beauty industry and the unrealistic standards of beauty that are perpetuated through social media.

Kindred Quilt: Katherine Kressner
April 24 - May 13, 2023

Kindred Quilt is a nearly 4-minute animated film produced by a fourth-year graduating student, Katherine Kressner, from the Graphic Design & Digital Media Program, Art & Art History Department. The Saratoga Springs native created this project as a year-long Independent Study course led by Professor Martine Barnaby.

"Family Tree": elin o'Hara slavick, Madeleine Slavick, Sarah Slavick, and Susanne Slavick

Family Tree is a group exhibition combining art and poetry. This unique project brings together the works of four sisters with careers as artists and writers: elin o'Hara slavick (Irvine, CA), Madeleine Slavick (Wairarapa, New Zealand), Sarah Slavick (Boston, MA), and Susanne Slavick (Pittsburgh, PA).

Student Select '22

Student Select '22 is an exhibition featuring artwork created by SUNY Cortland students.

The Dowd Gallery presents a fully accessible showcase of student art produced from across disciplines and majors after a couple of previous renditions affected by the global pandemic. The Art Exhibition Association (aka Art Club) members invited Jack Elliott to take the role of exhibition juror. Elliott is the past Dowd Gallery's featured artist who exhibited his solo show in the fall of 2021. He is an Associate Professor from the Design and Environmental Analysis Department, College of Human Ecology, Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and came to select artwork for the exhibition on Wednesday, April 20. He chose 66 pieces from 32 artists representing ceramics, digital illustration, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, fibers, graphic design, sculpture, and video.
