Q: When is the $200 admission deposit due?
A: Every student interested in confirming their attendance with us must submit the $200 admission deposit by June 1 or 30 days from the date of your acceptance letter, whichever is later.

Q: How do I apply for the SUNY Cortland Merit Scholarship?
A: All applicants are reviewed for the SUNY Cortland Merit Scholarship at the time of their admission decision.  The scholarship selection process at SUNY Cortland is highly selective and scholarship recipients are notified in their admission letter.

Q: When will I be notified about my housing?
A: In early May all students that have confirmed their attendance will be sent instructions on how to complete their housing preference forms.  The forms are due by the end of May and all students will be notified of their housing assignment in early August.

Q: Do I need to complete an Immunization and Health History form?
A: Yes, all new students that confirm their enrollment need to complete an Immunization and Health History form by July 1.

Q: When can I register for an orientation session?
A: All new students that confirm their enrollment will be sent instructions on how to sign up for an orientation session in early May.

Q:  When is the $200 admission deposit due?

Q: Am I guaranteed on campus housing?
A: Yes, all full-time students are guaranteed campus housing in either a residence hall or our west campus apartment complex.

Q:  Am I required to live in campus housing?
A:  Yes, but there are some exceptions.  Please review the housing requirements and if you would like to request off campus housing please complete and submit the Off-Campus Approval Form directly to the Housing Office.

Q:  When will I know how my credits transfer to SUNY Cortland?
A:  Once your deposit is received an official credit evaluation will be completed.  The Advisement and Transition office will mail a Degree Works audit. You will also have access to Degree Works through myRedDragon.

Q: When can I register for classes?
A: During the Transfer Transition Seminar (orientation) scheduled for January (SPRING admits) or June/July (FALL admits).  Our Advisement and Transition Office will be in contact with registration information as it become pertinent.

Q:  Am I allowed to have a car on campus?
A:  All students are permitted to register a car on campus through the Campus Parking department.

Q:  Are part time jobs available for students?
A:  Yes, to find out about the possibilities please contact the Employment Coordinator in Career Services.


Q.  I’ve been accepted for admission.  What is my next step?
A.  You should pay the $50 Admissions Deposit to reserve a place in your graduate program.  Once the deposit is paid, other campus offices are notified.  They will then contact you concerning various steps you need to complete.

Q.  How much does it cost to attend?
A.  Tuition and fees depend upon the number of credits you are enrolled in during a semester.  A list of current costs per credit hour is located here:

Q.  How do I receive financial aid?

Q.  Are there any graduate scholarships?
A.  There are a limited number of scholarships available for graduate students.  Information concerning the types is available here:

Q.  How else might I reduce my costs?
A.  Some students might consider applying for a Graduate Assistant Position.  Students assist various campus offices through either teaching, research, or coaching.  In return, they receive compensation through a reduction in tuition and may also receive a stipend.

Q.  How do I register for classes?
A.  If you pay your deposit, you will eventually receive a time-ticket that will notify you when and how to register for classes through myRedDragon.

Q.  How many credits are considered part time?
A.  If you enroll in less than nine credit hours per semester, you are considered part time for academic purposes.  Six to 11.5 credit hours is the official standard for financial aid.

 

Q.  Is there any support on campus for graduate students?
A.  The Advisement and Transition Office has a Coordinator of Graduate Student Support.  The coordinator is here for you and provides useful resources concerning various topics such as registration, parking, and student IDs.  In addition, the coordinator organizes a new student reception each semester and publishes a campus newsletter for graduate students.
