Institute for Disability Studies

The institute is an organization dedicated to providing individuals and families of individuals with disabilities the support and resources to become fully informed and empowered members of our community. An electronic journal, "Social Advocacy and Systems Change", edited by Judy Bentley, is also supported by the Institute.

Our Mission

The mission of the Institute for Disability Studies is to promote and sustain research and scholarship in disability studies at SUNY Cortland.

What is Disability Studies?

Disability Studies is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry dedicated to highlighting the perspectives of people with disabilities in a positive, social model. Engaging with researchers, family members, and persons with disabilities, we foster inquiry that promotes the abilities of people with disabilities.
