Ghana is a small, tropical, English-speaking, West African nation of about twenty million people. Ghanaian people have unrivalled hospitality and are open and welcoming to Europeans and Americans. Ghana is a beautiful, tropical country boasting rain forests, wildfire parks, and pristine beaches. Ghana's rich cultural history and strong artisan heritage inspire the colorful crafts found in many Ghanaian marketplaces. Accra, the capital of Ghana, is a bustling, rapidly growing city of almost two million people and is approx. eight miles from the University of Ghana. Accra has a lively night life, affordable restaurants, and a decidedly "non-touristy" atmosphere that makes it a real resource for the participants of this program.
Founded in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast, the University of Ghana, Legon has been placed on the Top 100 Universities in Africa and is revered for its outstanding professors and distinguished alumni.
