The German Sport University (Deutsche Sporthochschule) in Cologne, Germany is an internationally renowned university-level special purpose institution devoted to professional preparation in physical education, sports and recreation. It has world class indoor and outdoor sporting facilities along with an outstanding faculty. Cologne is, at the same time, one of Germany's oldest cities and its fourth-largest. Nestled along the fabled Rhine River, Cologne is home to the Olympic and Sport Museum and the headquarters of Ford Europe. It is a city of 1 million in a metropolis region of 10 million.

2.5 GPA

Second Semester Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Student Status

German is not required; students may choose from courses taught in English. German proficiency allows students to partake in all available courses.

To apply, please complete and submit:

  1. SUNY study abroad application
  2. Deutsche Sporthochschule Application
  3. Deutsche Sporthochschule Housing Application: Program fees include housing in dormitory A or B. If other accomodation is requested, additional fees may apply.

Cortland Students: To ensure that the courses you take abroad will satisfy your degree requirements, you are required to submit he Course Approval Form to the International Programs Office by mid-November for spring term applicants or May 1, for fall term applicants.

Non-Cortland students must speak with their home campus study abroad office for information on the course approval process.

Non-Cortland students must return completed Judicial Review and Code of Conduct forms along with the SUNY application.

Program Course Information

Deutsche Sporthochschule (German Sport University) is Germany's largest and most prestigious center of teaching and research in physical education and sport science.
Physical Education, Sport Management, and Exercise Science majors welcome.

Choose from a variety of courses taught in English. German proficiency allows access to all courses offered.

Students participating on this program will be registered full time for at least 12 U.S. credits. Students may take SUNY Cortland 3rd quarter classes (January - March) for additional credit prior to departure.

Accommodations

On-Campus Housing required; housing includes a double or single bedroom with a central bath and access to a shared kitchen; On-campus cafeteria (mensa) provides affordable, complete meals for $5.00/meal, local cafes and grocery stores also provide affordable meals.
