Stefania Buta is the Student Government Treasurer for the 2015-2016 academic year. She is a junior from the small town of Catskill NY, and is enrolled in the Honors Program, studying psychology. To relax Stefania enjoys hiking, camping, yoga, volunteering, traveling, coffee, and hummus. In her spare time, she participates in the Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Team.
When she is not in the office, Stefania is a Research Assistant at the Cortland Psychophysiology Laboratory and is a Teaching Assistant for Human Emotion (Psy 410). She pursues her passion in Psychology by working in the community as well. Last semester, she interned at the YWCA for the Aid to Victims of Violence Program. Her goals for the future are to obtain her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology, give a TEDTalk speech, publish a novel, and to travel across the world. Her most upcoming adventure is her plan to travel to Haiti on a mission trip in the winter of 2016.
Last year Stefania served as the SGA Vice Treasurer, where she also was the student representative for Faculty Senate and the Student Health Advisory Committee. This year, she is honored to be the Treasurer, and aims to use this opportunity as a means to help SGA clubs and organizations go above and beyond in their efforts of civic engagement.
Her life philosophy for this year can be summed up into one word: meraki. Meraki is a Greek word that means to do something with soul, creativity, and love; it means to put the essence of yourself into your work. This is the mindset that Stefania proactively implements into all areas of her life, and wants to influence others to do the same.
