A service-learning course’s syllabus must describe this method of learning; it must
- Define “service-learning” as a teaching/learning methodology
- Explain how service-learning is integrated into the course in terms of goals, assignments, and evaluation
- Emphasize that the grading is based on learning, not the number of community service hours provided (though a service-learning course requires, ideally, at least twenty evenly-spaced hours of service throughout a fifteen-week semester).
- Emphasize that the learning comes, in good part, from structured reflection.
