Syllabi

A service-learning course’s syllabus must describe this method of learning; it must

  1. Define “service-learning” as a teaching/learning methodology
  2. Explain how service-learning is integrated into the course in terms of goals, assignments, and evaluation
  3. Emphasize that the grading is based on learning, not the number of community service hours provided (though a service-learning course requires, ideally, at least twenty evenly-spaced hours of service throughout a fifteen-week semester).
  4. Emphasize that the learning comes, in good part, from structured reflection.
