Bringing Theory to Practice

Bringing Theory to Practice logoBringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP)

Funded by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU), Bringing Theory to Practice is aimed at developing the full potential and well being of college students. This AACU program, which began in 2002, supports "campus-based initiatives that demonstrate how uses of engaged forms of learning that actively involve students both within and beyond the classroom directly contribute to their cognitive, emotional, and civic development."

As one of BTtoP's demonstration sites, SUNY Cortland is currently conducting research into the effects of high impact learning practices, including civic engagement, on the psychosocial well-being of students. Data collected from students engaged in these high impact learning practices will be assesed using the PIERs model of Perspective-taking, Identity, Emotional Competence, and Resilence and the Flourishing QOL instrument developed by Corey L.M. Keyes.
