Programs of the Institute for Civic Engagement
The Institute for Civic Engagement (ICE) is dedicated to providing students with civically engaging curricular and co-curricular opportunities that will enhance their college experience and benefit local, national and global communities. In addition to course offerings in academic Service-Learning, ICE oversees the Building Community Leaders Program, AmeriCorps, and Bringing Theory to Practice, a project whose goal is to assess the effects of high impact learning practices, including civic engagement, on the psychosocial well-being of students.
ICE also functions as a conduit between the College and the community, creating and facilitating connections and holding events which foster civic engagement and community well being. ICE events are free and often held at Main Street SUNY Cortland, the College's community outreach facility.
