Professional Development Workshops

The Registrar's Office offers a series of Professional Development Workshops for faculty and staff working with student records and the student module within the Banner Student Information System (SIS). You may also sign up for a specialized training or workshops focused on a particular topic or process. Workshops are generally open to all faculty and staff, and are offered by the Registrar's Office.

Module I: Banner Basics

The Banner Basics (Banner Boot Camp) module is aimed at new Banner users and new employees who will begin using the Banner student information system client (forms), or users who would like a refresher on the principles of Banner navigation and use. This session will focus on the fundamentals of the Banner system, including information about how the system is organized and structured. Attendees will learn how to navigate Banner and use various queries, forms and tools most commonly used by departmental personnel. Time will also be devoted to show users some useful “tips and tricks” that can improve navigation and provide efficiencies.

Module II: Banner Reports 101 (Job Submission)

Banner reports 101 is designed to help users make the most out of Banner's baseline reporting tools and locally-developed reports in Banner client (forms). Users will learn the basics of the most commonly used tools and reports, and will learn how to customize and design your requests to get the results you need. An overview of all available reports developed by IR, and as part of the baseline system, will also be provided for users.

Module III: Banner Efficiencies

Learn all the tips and tricks that make navigating Banner a breeze.  Learn how to use the GOTO field to perform a series of tasks. Learn keyboard shortcuts that can dramatically speed up your business processes and data entry. Unearth the 'secret' keystrokes that can auto-populate data fields.  Also, you will learn how to customize your Banner environment to have all the tools you use the most at your fingertips.

Module IV: Registration Procedures for Academic Departments (New)

This module focuses on the specifics of the course schedule, course elements, special permission, course restrictions, prerequisites and co-requisites. This module is helpful to academic department staff members who routinely work with students to "lift flags" and manage the registration and course maintenance process. In addition to the day-to-day procedures within Banner, discussion focusing on the structure / functioning of course sections and their connections to other Banner elements will also take place.
