2009 WEIGHT LIFTING MEET RULES

General information regarding departmental policies and procedures may be obtained at the Recreational Sports Office, located at E-245 Park Center, or by calling 753-4943.

ENTRY/ROSTER:  Although this is a drop-in event, we strongly encourage participants to submit their entry forms to the Recreational Sports Office by Tuesday, March 24, by no later than 5:00 PM. 

COMPETITION:  All weight lifters must present a current, valid SUNY Cortland photo ID card prior to competition.  Sign-in and weigh-in will be from 4:00 to 5:00 PM in the Tomik Fitness Facility on Wednesday, March 25.  The meet will begin promptly at 5:00 PM for both the men's and women's competition.  Competitors will be grouped into weight classes and may compete in only one class. Participants may compete in a heavier weight class if they desire. The weight classes for women are 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181 and super heavyweight.  The weight classes for men are 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 198, 220, 242, 275 and super heavyweight. The events offered are bench press, squat, and deadlift. Participants must lift successfully in at least one of the three events to qualify for records or awards.  All competition will be completed on Wednesday, April 2 and may require most of the evening.

RULES:  The rules interpretations and decisions of the weight lifting judges and the weight lifting meet staff are final.

EQUIPMENT:  Basic power lifting equipment will be provided by the Recreational Sports Department. Use of personal weight lifting belts is allowed. Wrist and knee wraps may be used. No lifting straps allowed. Chalk will be provided.

AWARDS:  Championship T-shirts and medals will be presented to the male and female champions of each weight class. T-shirts will also be awarded to individuals who break existing records in each weight class. 

ASSUMPTION OF RISK:  Inherent risks are associated with every recreational activity.  Participants assume these risks when they agree to participate. All participants are strongly advised to secure health insurance coverage and to visit their physician for a physical examination prior to registration or participation.

RESCHEDULING:  This is a one-day event, so rescheduling will not be possible.

SCHEDULES:  It is solely the responsibility of the participants to find out when they are scheduled to compete.  The weight lifting meet will begin promptly at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, March 25.  All participants must be signed in and weighed in by this time.
