E-mail

Policies and Standards

Electronic mail or e-mail is a campus resource that provides a quick and cost-effective means to communicate and to promote the College's overall mission. E-mail messages should be used for internal and external communications that serve legitimate College business and must meet professional standards of conduct.

The College's policies on e-mail use can be found on the Information Resources Web site at www.cortland.edu/ir/policies.asp.

E-mail is an important form of communication that enables us to convey SUNY Cortland’s message in a consistent fashion. Common e-mail formats have been developed for all individual e-mail addresses and signatures so that we can represent the College consistently, and, make it easier for people to communicate with us.

E-mail Addresses

The individual “primary” e-mail address format was changed to firstname.lastname@cortland.edu or john.quincy@cortland.edu on August 15, 2008. This new address format is attached to the e-mails you send.

ALL PREVIOUS INDIVIDUAL E-MAIL ADDRESSES REMAIN ACTIVE.

This new format should be used for e-mail addresses that are listed in electronic or printed communications such as your e-mail signature, business card, etc.

E-mail Signature

Individual expressions that are not associated with SUNY Cortland should be discontinued in order to place primary emphasis on the College, division, school, unit, department or program.
