Academic Advisors are available for brief (10-15 minute) advising questions on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

All workshops are located in the Advisement and Transition conference room, Memorial Library, Room A-111. Advisement and Transition is here to support you in your role as an academic advisor. Advising Nuts and Bolts

Learn SUNY Cortland’s philosophy on academic advising and advisor/advisee expectations. Get the tools you need to understand the advising process and your role in assisting students achieve academic success. This 1-hour workshop will provide an overview of advising resources, including myRedDragon and Degree Works, and we will discuss the transfer credit process.

Financial Considerations for Academic Decisions
Noon
When choosing to withdrawal from a class, change a major or add a minor, students could be making decisions that have financial implications. Additionally, SUNY Cortland utilizes Registration Compliance Tracking (RCT) to determine whether a student’s registered credits count toward their degree program. Join us to learn about RCT and financial considerations students should keep in mind when registering and making academic decisions.

Understanding Course Exceptions/Substitutions
Noon
Generally, exceptions are "course substitutions" where one or several courses are substituted for another when the advisor, department chair and associate dean find that the learning outcomes, subject matter, and expectation and materials have significant overlap. Learn more about when an exception might benefit a student, how the process works and the impact transfer credit has on exceptions.

Helping students see a clear path to their degree is critical to academic success. As an academic advisor, you can assist students in developing a plan that meets degree requirements, is sequenced appropriately and maintains a manageable course load. Join us in discussing the resources available to assist students in degree planning.
