On April 20, 2009, the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) signed an agreement with SUNY Cortland that brought the team's 2009 summer training camp to the central New York campus.
The following year, more than 41,000 spectators came to the magnificent SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex during the first three weeks of August for an up-close view of the Jets players and coaches as they prepared for the season. The visitors also enjoyed interactive Generation Jets Fest activities, shopped at the Jets Store, and collected player autographs. The 2010 training camp generated $5.8 million in economic activity in Cortland County.
Although the lengthy labor dispute between the National Football League's owners and players led the Jets to decide against holding a camp in Cortland in 2011, team officials pledged to hold camps at SUNY Cortland in 2012 and 2013, fulfilling the terms of the team's agreement with the College.
As the "Official University Partner of the New York Jets." SUNY Cortland enjoys increased media and marketing exposure in the New York metro and northern New Jersey region that includes LED signage at MetLife Stadium, banner displays on newyorkjets.com and other media advertisements associated with the New York Jets.
This official designation reflects the outstanding collaborative work not only leading up to and throughout the Jets' Cortland training camps, but a proud, ongoing partnership built upon mutual high standards of excellence.
