Is a bachelor’s degree required for admission?

Yes, completion of a bachelor’s degree in any field is required for admission, along with all of the prerequisite coursework.

How do I apply?

All applications should be submitted through the online graduate school application. Contact the SUNY Cortland Graduate Admissions Office at 607-753-4800 or graduate.admissions@cortland.edu with questions about the general application.

Can I apply even though I am still completing my undergraduate degree?

Yes, you may submit an application with courses still in progress, but your undergraduate degree and all prerequisites must be completed by the start of the program.

Are observation hours required for admission?

Yes, all applicants must complete 50 hours of observation with a certified athletic trainer.

Can I be a part-time student in this program?

No. The program is designed to be completed by full-time students with specific course sequencing.

When are admission decisions made?

After the SUNY Cortland Graduate Admissions Office receives all of the required documents, the application is forwarded to the Kinesiology Department. A committee consisting of at least two athletic training representatives evaluates applications. An approximate date for admission decisions is still to be determined.

When does the program start and how long will it take?

The two-year program starts in July during SUNY Cortland’s second summer session.

Can I be a student-athlete?

Students admitted to the MSAT program are not allowed to participate in intercollegiate athletics at SUNY Cortland.
