Feel the Pulse of Red Dragon Pride at the State Fair

The future’s so bright at SUNY Cortland, you’ve got to wear shades.

That’s why staff members will hand out Red Dragon sunglasses when the College exhibits at the New York State Fair in Syracuse from Friday, Aug. 22, to Sunday, Aug. 24.

For the third straight year, SUNY Cortland will staff a booth at New York state’s largest annual event. College supporters are encouraged to wear their school colors when they pay a visit.

The State University of New York display this year will be located in a prominent wing of the Science and Industry Building, close to the Fair’s main entrance and right off the main Chevy Court thoroughfare. In past years, the SUNY display resided underneath a tent near the Dairy Products Building.

Any students, alumni, parents or friends of the College who visit the exhibit will receive the free pair of Cortland sunglasses and have an opportunity to snap a photo with Blaze, SUNY Cortland’s often fierce and always loveable Red Dragon. The College then will post those photos in its State Fair photo album on Facebook.

Fair-going alumni also will be able to reconnect with their alma mater and log into the Red Dragon Network, a new online community that allows the College’s nearly 70,000 graduates to share information and interact.

Fans of the Fair also might want to sign up for College volunteer opportunities. SUNY Cortland is looking to fill three, four-hour shifts per day of two volunteers. Volunteers will be asked to hand out giveaways and talk about the College.

In exchange, all volunteers will receive one free admission ticket to the Fair, a t-shirt and a Fair Bargain Book filled with coupons offering $3,000 in discounts at more than 100 Fair vendors.

Volunteers are asked to register by Tuesday, Aug. 19, to ensure that they will receive their Fair tickets in the mail. If sign-ups are made later, other arrangements for ticket pick-up can be made.
