SES Advisory Board

The PSM external advisory board is made up of representatives from the business, non-profit, and government sectors who help to shape the curriculum of the program to ensure that it is properly preparing students for the ever changing job market.  At SUNY Cortland our advisory board currently consists of eight members representing renewable energy, building performance, and sustainable engineering firms as well as regional non-profits and economic development organizations.  The current PSM advisory board members are:

Jon Harrod

  • Founder of Snug Planet, a residential energy performance company in Ithaca, NY
  • Former Secretary of the New York Building Performance Contractors Association
  • Ph.D in ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Andrew (A.J.) Heiligman

  • President of Alternative Carbon Energy Systems, Inc. (ACES-Energy) a renewable energy engineering, sales and installation company near Rochester, NY specializing in Solar and Geothermal Heating & Cooling
  • International Ground Source Heat Pump Accredited Installer
  • Certified Energy Manger by Association of Energy Engineers
  • B.S. in Interdisciplinary Engineering & Management from Clarkson University

Brent Katzmann

Melissa Kemp

  • Director of the Renewable Energy division at Taitem Engineering in Ithaca, NY
  • Formerly worked as a solar energy project developer at Renovus Energy in Ithaca, NY, as the Division Manager of Halco Renewable Energy in Phelps, NY, and as a Policy Analyst and Organizer in the energy program at Public Citizen in Washington, DC
  • B.A. in molecular biology from Princeton University

Beth Klein

  • President of Sustainable Cortland, a community group dedicated to building sustainable solutions for Cortland County
  • Professor of Science Education in Childhood/Early Childhood Education at SUNY Cortland
  • Graduate Program Coordinator for the MSED in Childhood Education at SUNY Cortland
  • Co-Director, Teacher Professional Development Network of Central New York
