Lynn Couturier MacDonald


Dr. Lynn Couturier MacDonald, D.P.E., is a Professor and former chair of the Physical Education Department at SUNY Cortland. She is a Past President of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and chaired NASPE’s Curriculum Framework & K – 12 Standards Revision Task Force, which developed the current grade-level outcomes. Dr. MacDonald also served as a member of SHAPE America’s Physical Education Teacher Education Initial Standards Revision Committee and has served in numerous capacities for AAHPERD, NASPE, and the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals in the areas of physical education pedagogy and women’s sport history. Most recently, she was one of the principal writers for the National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes for K – 12 Physical Education and PE Metrics. She co-authored the introductory chapters for both Lesson Planning for Middle School Physical Education and Lesson Planning for High School Physical Education, while co-editing the remaining chapters. Highlights of her service on campus include chair of Faculty Senate (2018 – 2019), advisor for Student Teaching in Australia, member of the Institutional Planning and Assessment Committee, as well as numerous other committees and advisory boards.

 

Dr. MacDonald earned her B.S. and D.P.E. degrees in physical education from Springfield College (MA) and her M.S. in biomechanics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Her postdoctoral studies include earning a graduate certificate in Advanced Feminist Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a M.A. in American Studies from Trinity College. Dr. MacDonald was the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service (2017), inducted as a fellow in the North American Society for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance (2016) and recognized for her service to the profession with the AAHPERD Honor Award (2014).
