What To Expect From Your Appointment

Each writing consultation is different based on the needs of the student, but there are a few things that might be helpful to know before your first appointment. Our writing consultations usually last about half an hour. Your writing consultant will sit down with you and together you’ll look over the assignment you’re working on (if you have a prompt for the assignment, be sure to bring it with you). They’ll ask you to explain what you’re looking for help with specifically and then turn to whatever writing you have with you and the session will proceed from there. It is important to keep in mind that our consultants are graduate students and writing instructors who will provide thoughtful, critical responses to your work, but they won’t do the work for you. In other words, our writing consultants are not here to proofread your work, but they will help you become a more mature, more confident writer.
