SEVEN VALLEYS WRITING PROJECT
The National Writing Project at SUNY Cortland
The Seven Valleys Writing Project at SUNY Cortland is a National Writing Project (NWP) site. Through the NWP's professional development programs, teachers in all subject areas and at all levels learn new strategies for helping their students become accomplished writers and learners. Teachers also become members of a professional development community that helps them keep their teaching fresh and vibrant. The NWP model begins with an annual summer institute at our site in SUNY Cortland's Main Street facility in the Beard Building. In July 2008 we finished our first Summer Institute and convened an Advisory Board of school and community leaders to support and guide the project. Professor David Franke of SUNY Cortland directs the project, with Kathryn Cernera of Ithaca City Schools, Todd Howell of Lansing Central Schools, and Danielle Sullivan of Candor Central Schools serving as associate directors.
