UNDER THE BALCONY: Traces: The Human Legacy, Travis Wheeler, B.F.A. Exhibition
April 28-May 14, 2016

"Humankind is just one part of the natural force known as life. Life emerged from interactions of elemental matter, and it continues to react to those interactions. Its responsiveness is what separates living matter from non-living matter. From the simple absorption of nutrients, to the building of nests and dens, to the creation of organized industry by humans, I see each of these acts as equally 'natural.'

In my work, I combine visual representations of different manifestations of matter - living, non-living, and those artifacts that life has left behind: what I call 'bio-remnants' - in order to illustrate their natural interconnectedness. It is in our nature as humans to classify things in order to understand them, but in doing so, I believe we are at risk of fragmenting the bigger picture. My work aims to present the reality of interconnectedness that governs our world."
