Railroads in Cortland County: Past, Present and Future
Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009

The history of railroads in Central New York is rich and varied.  Even decades after the railroad's decline, a variety of small tourist train operations has continued intermittently in this region.  Join photographer Tom Trencansky as he shares scenes and history of both local and state rail operations, followed by SUNY Cortland's Sharon Todd, who will summarize results of a two-year study looking at the extent to which citizens would support and use a local tourist excursion train between Binghamton and Cortland.  Following the the one hour discussion, you are invited to view That Lonesome Whistle, a 30 minute video about the history of railroads in Cortland.

SPEAKERS:    Sharon Todd, assoc. prof., Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies, SUNY Cortland
Thomas Trencansky, executive director, Cayuga Nature Center

Vince Minnella, retired director, Instructional Resources
