  • Founded in 2010, ASI recognizes one scholar from around the world who is working theoretically and practically on advancing anarchist studies and intersectional interdiciplinary studies and activism. If you are interested in being an ASI Fellow of the Year please send 1) a 500 to 1000 word statement on your accomplishments, academic work, advocacy, and academic and political goals, 2)  three recommendations, and 3) your CV. The Fellow position is a one year appointment.

The Fellow position is a one year appointment.

Process and Responsibilities

  • Deadline for the Fellow and Scholar position is March 1, 2010.
  • Scholars and Fellows that have been awarded will be notified and recognized at the annual Conference on Critical Animal Studies.
  • After being notified of being awarded as a Scholar or Fellow please send us a 220 word biography and picture of yourself, which will be posted with your e-mail to our website.
  • Please send reports every month to update us on your work so we can post in our newsletter, website, and blog.

2010 ASI Fellows

Liat Ben-Moshe, Lucy Parson Fellow of the Year 2010, Israeli, is a doctoral student in sociology, disability studies, and women's studies at Syracuse University. She is the coeditor of Building Pedagogical Curb Cuts (SU Press, 2005) and a special issue of Disability Studies Quarterly (2007) on disability in Israel/Palestine. Liat is also a core member of Beyond Compliance, a student advocacy group aimed at raising disability consciousness.

Deric Shannon, Emma Goldman Fellow of the Year 2010, is a PhD. candidate in sociology at the University of Connecticut, where he studies prefigurative politics and radical social movements. He is a long time anarchist militant with roots in groups like Anti-Racist Action and Food Not Bombs. He is a co-editor of the book "Contemporary Anarchist Studies: An Introductory Reader of Anarchy in the Academy" and the author of numerous articles and book chapters, typically on radical political thought. He is a member of the Worker's Solidarity Alliance, Queers without Borders, and co-runs the independent record label, Wooden Man Records.
