Friends of Cortland Lacrosse
There has never been a better time to come together in support of Red Dragon lacrosse! The Friends of Cortland Lacrosse fundraising initiative will provide important annual support to help the men’s lacrosse coach in areas such as team travel, recruiting, equipment replacement, facility upgrades and enhanced training opportunities. The larger the fund grows, the larger the annual financial benefit will be to the program. More than $100,000 has already been raised with an ultimate goal of $500,000.
As you consider your participation in this initiative, know that this will be a first for a Cortland athletic program. It is hoped that this initiative will provide a model for other teams with the potential of adding millions of dollars in support of SUNY Cortland Athletics.
Oct. 12- 13, 2012
Despite the blustery day, 20 foursomes kicked off the weekend with a golf tournament at the local country club. Coach Steve Beville and the team thanked everyone for their support. Following a nice dinner at the club, the festivities continued at a casual downtown party at Central City Bar & Grill.
The current team won bragging rights by beating alumni at the Saturday morning scrimmage. Alumni were then treated to watching the Red Dragons defeat Brockport on the gridiron in style in the Stephen J. Hunt '72 VIP Lounge with President Erik J. Bitterbaum.
The weekend concluded with more than 90 people gathering in the Corey Union Function Room for the Saturday evening Celebration of Champions: Friends of Lacrosse banquet. Some of Cortland's best players joined coaches Jack Emmer '70, Chuck Winter and Jerry Casciani. Alumni enjoyed hearing from the President Erik J. Bitterbaum, Coach Beville, Jud Smith '76 and Jim Bonventura '79. A photo slideshow highlighted all eras.
Thanks to everyone who attended. If you weren't there, you missed an amazing weekend!
Thank you to Rich Cecconi '74 for sharing.
