Alumni are invited to play golf at Calusa Lakes Golf Club in Nokomis, Fla. Golfers and non-golfers are invited to an hors d'oeuvres reception at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at the clubhouse.

Tailgate with alumni, family and friends and enjoy the men's lacrosse game at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa, N.Y.

Staten Island vs. Cortland Baseball:
Gather at Schaffer's Tavern with alumni, family and friends and support the Red Dragons baseball team when they play at CUNY College at Staten Island, N.Y. Contact Robert Vinal '71 for more information.

Dinner and a Musical:
Enjoy dinner at the Lynne Parks '68 SUNY Cortland Alumni House with special guest speaker Thomas Hischak, a SUNY Cortland professor of performing arts. The evening concludes with a performance of 'Violet' in the Dowd Performing Arts Center.

Super Bowl Exceeds Expectation, Even for an Olympian

It was a Super Bowl weekend to remember for George Breen ’56. The three-time Olympic medalist won SUNY Cortland’s Super Bowl raffle package for the football getaway in Indianapolis. He said the expenses-paid, three-day trip was “as good as anything I’ve ever done” and shared details when he returned.

Alumnus Gives Back to His Basketball Family

Ed Leone ’78 doesn’t have a wife or children. But he does have former basketball teammates he considers as close as brothers. With them in mind, he recently created a $25,000 endowment for SUNY Cortland’s men’s basketball team. He hopes the next generation of Red Dragon hoopsters will forge basketball family ties of its own.

Tailgates and Lacrosse: Two SUNY Cortland Specialties

A special pre-game tailgate party packed with food and prizes is planned for College alumni, families and friends when the nationally sixth-ranked SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse team travels to Massapequa, N.Y., to take on Gettysburg College. An 11 a.m. tailgate precedes a 1 p.m. start at John J. Burns Park.

Educating a Champion: Valerie Smith

This senior geography major grew up in Auburn, N.Y., a city with just more than 27,000 residents. Soon, she will study in Beijing, a Chinese city with roughly 20 million people. Her curiosity and high marks in the classroom made the study abroad trip possible. The $1,000 Wah Chip and Yuki Chin Memorial Scholarship lessened her financial burden.

Throughout the 2011-12 academic year, SUNY Cortland students have attended Alumni Speaker Series events to gather valuable career advice from alumni in the workforce. Three panel discussions have taken place already, with three more planned over the next two months.

Red to Go Green for St. Paddy’s Day in Central New York

Alumni and friends of SUNY Cortland will gather at Mulrooney’s Pub in Syracuse’s Armory Square for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 17. The event, which costs $10 for alumni and $15 for non-alumni guests, features a buffet, cash bar and raffle prizes. The party starts at 11 a.m., an hour before the city’s St. Patrick's Day parade.

Update Your Record if You Entered Undecided

Cortland’s pre-major program allows undergraduates who have yet to commit to a field of study explore opportunities that match their talents and interests. With that in mind, the Alumni Affairs Office is asking graduates who entered college undecided on a major to update their alumni records. The plan is to connect pre-major students and once-undeclared alumni through future events.

A new fleet of eye-catching and environmentally friendly College buses greeted students returning to campus for the spring semester, offering rides on vehicles that use cleaner fuel and sport creative, shrink wrapped graphics featuring the Cortland Red Dragon.
