Thomas BuchananIn 2005, Thomas Buchanan '74 became the 23rd president of the University of Wyoming, where he has enjoyed an astoundingly successful career that has spanned three decades.

Starting as an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Recreation, Buchanan worked his way up through the ranks as associate professor and department chair. After earning a full professorship, he served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, associate provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Buchanan earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation education and leisure studies from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree from the University of Wyoming and a doctorate from the University of Illinois.
