Minutes:� Professional Studies School Curriculum Meeting

        The minutes from the prior meeting were approved unanimously.

        Items

o       Physical Education

         Proposed to add the CAR and SAV workshops as pre-requisites to EDU 456.

        A contingent pass was unanimously approved, pending the findings described below.

        We discussed whether the Chair�s signature was an acceptable substitute for the Chair of the Dept. Curriculum Committee.� [NOTE:� Subsequent to the meeting, Hendrick learned that the P.E. Department�s curriculum committee is a committee of the whole, so the chair�s signature is acceptable.]

o       Kinesiology

         Proposed to create a new major, Exercise Science

        A contingent pass was approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention), pending a few corrections and getting a letter from the Physics Dept. with regard to adding PHY 106 or 202 to the major.� The most significant correction was to clarify that the �external reviewer comments� stemmed from a SUNY program review.

         Proposed to delete the concentration of Exercise Science

        Approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention)

         Proposed to create a new major, Sport Studies

        A contingent pass was approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention), pending a few corrections and getting a letter from the English Dept. regarding the change in the status of ENG 260 from �required� to �elective.�� The most significant correction was to add a reference in the Justification section to the role played by SUNY program review.

         Proposed to delete the concentration of Sport Studies

        A contingent pass was approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention), pending a reference to the change in ENG 260 as having �minimal� impact

         Proposed to create a new major, Coaching

        A contingent pass was approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention), pending a few corrections.� The most significant corrections were to add a reference in the Justification section to the role played by SUNY program review and to note that the new program will continue to satisfy NASPE coaching guidelines.

 

         Proposed to delete the concentration of Coaching

        Approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention)

         Proposed to delete the major of Kinesiology

        A contingent pass was approved (3 in favor, 1 abstention), pending a few corrections.
