Curriculum Committee Minutes

Proposals, Discussion, and Actions

Meeting of January 19, 2007

Cornish Hall, Room D218

11:00 a.m.

Present: Pamela Summers, Emilie Kudela, Marley Barduhn

Absent: Joseph Rayle

CAP 260 Catalog description Take out This course will provide an opportunity for students to obtain. Begin with Knowledge and skills.

Is this really pertinent for a college course? On page 2 of the proposal, in number 8; do we really have the faculty to teach the course? Does the college have the resources and equipment (computers) necessary for this course to run? It seems to be a vocational/technological course. Why are we offering this for inclusion in our curriculum? Is the exam part of the course? This is unclear. Why is it necessary to pass this exam?

Is this a resource course because of department guidelines? Is there a research paper because of department guidelines? How much is the presentation worth and how is it connected to the paper?

The attendance policy needs clarification. For example, class meetings are once per week. Does three absences mean three classes or three weeks? The grading policy is also unclear.

There is an inclusion of Academic Honesty and then also, Attribution. The College Policy should be used and followed here. This is the standard source.

Action: On hold. Pam will write a memo and meet with Mark Connell to discuss this further with him.

CAP 404 The question is raised again on whether or not we have faculty resources for this course.

The course attendance policy needs clarification, as in CAP 260. Project assignments need clarification and additional information. Week 2 indicates that Project 1 is due. Week 3 states, begin project 1. This is not clear.

The grading policy has no + or grades. This is not within the college grading policy.

Action: Pam will prepare a memo for this course as well indicating the suggested changes and updates and then will meet with Mark Connell to discuss it further.

Next Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for February 16. NOTE: The meeting on February 16 was canceled due to lack of proposals. The next meeting is scheduled for March 2 at 11:00 am in Cornish D218.
